An interesting beer to say the least. I got in on draught at Sonka’s Irish Pub inTerre Haute. It was served in a 10oz glass with a light tan head that laced the glass. Smell was sweet and malty maybe a bit like dark cocoa powder. Taste is sweet with a bitter finish not in extreme but just enough to make it work as a bittersweet flavor. Has some similarities with a porter or stout but with an interesting almost light licorice back end. It has a smooth finish, and as such is very drinkable. This beer is somewhat of a blend of two German lager styles, Schwarzbier and Rauchbier. It’s not a beer that is meant to ‘blitz’ the drinker with smokey or bacony notes typically found in Rauchbiers.
As the label reads: “Second only to David Hasselhoff in the hearts of Germans, the Schwarz style was originally brewed in the Eastern German state of Thuringia. Our brewers took this obscure black lager and sexied it up a little ‘Hoff-style’ by brewing a robust smoked double Schwarz. DOG Schwarz is full-bodied with a roasted malt flavor complemented by hints of smoke in the aroma and body.” – 7.8% ABV / 27 IBU’s

Established on May 7th 2007 by Dr. Frank Forster, wife Julie, and Julie’s big brother, Mark Snelling, the brewery was christened Bee Creek for the stream cutting through the center of the property.
The Forster’s are dynamic owners. Not satisfied to manage from the front office, Julie and Dr. Frank are hands-on, day-to-day problem solvers.
Then there is Bee Creek’s signature ales; a product of Brewmaster Mark Snelling’s accomplished recipes of hops, honey, wheat, yeast and magical elements. A navy veteran, he commands over 25 years brewing experience.
